Sri Lanka vs India 2nd ODI Betting Tips

Picture
Preview:

By Gokul Gopal

The one-sided nature of the India-Sri Lanka contests, which resulted in the hosts being clean swept in the Test series, extended into the first ODI as Virat Kohli's side registered a record victory in Dambulla, chasing down 217 with more than 20 overs to spare. The stage now shifts to Pallekele, the same venue where India registered their first overseas Test whitewash, for the second and the third ODIs, and going by how the series has progressed so far another huge Indian victory would only be a fair prediction.

It wasn't that Sri Lanka did not show any fight in the first ODI. Just that they couldn't capitalise on a good start and threw their wickets away causing much anger among the fans who resorted to protesting and shouting slogans against the team soon after the game. At 139 for 1, Sri Lanka had reached a solid position before crashing to 216 all out. Four out of the top five managed to cross 30 but only Niroshan Dickwella managed a half-century while the rest failed to convert their promising starts. Their bowling too was no match for India's batting might as the visitors raced to the target, registering a nine wicket victory.

Shikhar Dhawan, who scored an unbeaten 132, summed it up by saying that Sri Lanka is a young side going through a transitional phase. However, this phase has been going on for a long time now and what isn't also helping the team is that the selectors are trigger-happy. "For me, if we were left alone and you could work with this group of players, you could get some stability and consistency over a period of six months," said interim head coach Nic Pothas, urging the selectors to show some patience. But the lack of it has had a cascading effect on the team, whose performances only seems to be getting worse.

Batting, fielding, catching, bowling - nothing has gone right for the Sri Lankans in this series, with a fair share of injuries further depleting the resources. The hosts also haven't been helped by the fact that Lasith Malinga, their pace spearhead over the years, has been a pale shadow of his former self. Having not seen any ODI action since November 2015, Malinga returned to the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. In the nine games that he has played since June 2017, Malinga has picked up seven wickets while going at close to six an over with a bowling average of 61.71. The 33-year-old might be on borrowed time and unless he can justify his place in the team, Sri Lanka might have to look at different options.

Meanwhile, everything has been rosy in the Indian camp ever since they set foot in Sri Lanka. One dominating performance after another, contributions coming in from all corners, emphasis on fitness and a proposed rotation policy keeping everyone on their toes, the Indian team is in a happy place at the moment. There are, however, a few concerns which might have been masked by their towering performance in the last game. The quick bowlers erred on either side of the wicket and were finding it difficult to hit the right lengths, thus contributing a major share of the 10 wides that were bowled in the first ODI. Bowling coach Bharat Arun stressed on the importance of assessing the conditions beforehand and adapting to it. Whether the practice sessions leading up to the game have given them a fair idea remains to be seen.

The other immediate issue that India needs to address is the running between the wickets. Rohit Sharma did not appear too agile in the first game and was involved in a few mix-ups with Dhawan. Clearer calling and better judgement are imperative and the onus is on Rohit as well as Dhawan to figure out what works for them best. These apart, India pretty much have covered all bases and will head into the game with their confidence meter running in surplus.

When: Sri Lanka vs India, 2nd ODI - Thursday, August 24 at 2:30 PM Local Time

Where: Pallekele International Cricket Stadium

What to expect: Totals in excess of 300 have been limited in Pallekele, only three in 18 completed matches here, as the pitch offers a good balance between bat and ball. The last time India played at this venue was in August 2012 when they defended a total of 294. It is expected to be cloudy for the entire duration of the game with a high of 30 degree Celsius.

Team news:

Sri Lanka: Thisara Perera, Lakshan Sandakan and Wanidu Hasaranga failed to impress in the last game and they are likely to be out of the eleven for the second ODI. Milinda Siriwardana, Malinda Pushpakumara and Dushmantha Chameera are the ones likely to replace them.

Probable XI: Niroshan Dickwella (wk), Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Upul Tharanga (c), Angelo Mathews, Chamara Kapugedara, Milinda Siriwardana, Malinda Pushpakumara, Dushmantha Chameera, Lasith Malinga, Vishwa Fernando

India: Unless the nature of the wicket forces a change in combination or a late injury, the visitors are likely to stick to the same eleven that took the field at Dambulla.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (c), Lokesh Rahul, MS Dhoni (wk), Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal

Did you know?

- Rohit Sharma's last seven outings in ODIs in Sri Lanka read 5, 5, 0, 0, 4, 4 and 4. He is one single-figure dismissal away from breaking Sanath Jayasuriya's record of most such dismissals in succession.

- Chamara Kapugedara has scored 162 runs from his last 15 ODI innings at 11.57, with a highest of 62. The other 14 innings have fetched him a mere 100 runs.

- MS Dhoni is one short of equalling Kumar Sangakkara's world record of 99 stumpings in ODIs. Dhoni has so far affected 98 stumpings and has taken 278 catches behind the wickets.

What they said:

"In 2014, India were in the same situation when you got new players and new support staff. It takes time for everyone to get used to each other. I don't know what the time-frames are but all I know is that if we keep doing what we are doing at the moment you'll see results pretty soon" - Nic Pothas, Sri Lanka coach, remains optimistic about his team's chances.

"If the wicket is similar to Dambulla I don't see any reason to change the team just after one game. It was a perfect game for us because we came back into the game beautifully, we did well with the bat and were really sharp in the field. Very happy with how it went in the first game" - Virat Kohli, India captain, hints at an unchanged line-up.

Glamorgan vs Leicestershire 2nd Quarter-Final Betting Tips Free

Picture
ABOUT THE MATCHThe first quarter final turned out to be a one sided affair as Shahid Afridi showed once again to the world a glimpse of his batting that we got to see too infrequently in his international career. The second quarter final could be much closer as Glamorgan, who finished first in the South Group takes on Leicestershire who managed to sneak it into the finals after a red hot winning streak in the closing stages.
MATCH PREVIEWGLAMORGANThe acquisition of Colin Ingram and Merchant de Lange by Glamorgan has given them two quality players which have shaped their NatWest T20 Blast 2017 campaign. Colin Ingram has 381 runs in the tournament from only 11 innings including two centuries. He also has a staggering 25 sixes to his name making him Glamorgan’s most influential batsman by far.
While Merchant de Lange may not be the highest wicket taker for Glamorgan, that’s Michael Hogan with 18 wickets, he is the biggest threat to the opposition. De Lange has express pace, a commodity that is hard to come by in international cricket and even more so in county cricket. He can sometimes go for runs but is more likely to pick wickets and create a few for his teammates as well.
The batting is also bolstered by Rudolph, Donald, and Cooke in the middle order, all of them capable of scoring quickly, clearing the boundaries and stepping up when Ingram gets out early.
Glamorgan has not lost two matches in succession in this entire tournament and has been one of the few reliable teams of the entire competition. Rain played spoilsport in four of their matches otherwise the South Group could have been a lot more one sided.
We expect them to bring their A game to the quarter finals on Wednesday.
LEICESTERSHIREWhat a roller coaster season Leicestershire has had. They started off with four victories on the trot, then were unable to win a game in their next six games and once again rattled off 4 wins in a week to make it the quarter finals.
Which Leicestershire will turn up against Glamorgan? Only time will tell, however, one thing is sure that they will need to be at their very best to be able to pull this win off. Glamorgan is a batting heavy side while the success of Leicestershire has been built around their bowlers.
Clint Mckay has been having a dream season and is currently the highest wicket taker in the entire league with 22 scalps to his name. Expect him to target Ingram as soon as he comes on.
The Foxes also have Pillans with 17 wickets and Parkinson with 15 wickets to give this bowling lineup plenty of heft.
The last couple of matches have also seen Leicestershire get their batting in order wit Luke Ronchi and Mark Cosgrove leading the way. Both of them have 401 runs in this tournament at impressive strike rates.
Colin Ackerman and Cameron Delport will also play crucial roles with the bat in this game.
PITCH AND CONDITIONSThe weather is something that everyone is always concerned about at in Cardiff, however, the current forecast looks very promising. There is little to no rain predicted even though a few clouds will be hovering around.
The pitch at Sophia gardens will be flat and excellent for batting so as to benefit the home team most. Glamorgan needs to be careful though because it is quite often the better bowling attack that wins on a flat batting deck.
OUR PREDICTIONThis is going to be shoot out between the Leicestershire bowling and the Glamorgan batting. We think this could be a close match with Glamorgan having just enough ammunition to power through.

Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Barbados Tridents, 19th Match

Picture
ABOUT THE MATCH

The Knight Riders are flying high with 10 points in their bag and lead the table in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League; they will go up against hosts Amazon Warriors at Guyana on 19th August and try to maintain their stronghold in the series. The Warriors on the other hand recently suffered yet another defeat, this time against Jamaica Tallawahs, after managing to register their first win of the season against St. Lucia Stars; they will try to redeem themselves here with a better performance on Saturday.

GUYANA AMAZON WARRIORS

Speedsters Rayad Emrit and Steven Jacobs, and spinner Rashid Khan dismissed 2 opponents each in the match against Jamaica Tallawahs to restrict them to a lowly 128 runs; however, the batting line-up crumbled under pressure and despite a strong start by Martin Guptill and Chadwick Walton, who scored 30+ runs each, they lost the match by a meagre 2 runs. Babar Azam and Jason Mohammed also contributed well but failed to steer the team across the finish line.

Against St. Lucia Stars, batsmen Gajanand Singh, Jason Mohammed, Martin Guptill and Chadwick Walton helped them chase the 153-run target easily and win the match by 6 wickets. While Singh posted a quick fire 35 off 22, Mohammed and Walton scored 35+ runs each to build a solid foundation along with Guptill’s 23. Earlier, the in-form Rayad Emrit had claimed 4 wickets giving away 35 runs while spinner Rashid Khan took 2 wickets in the most economical way. Sohail Tanvir and Roshon Primus also pitched in to restrict St. Lucia Stars to a humble total.

They have won only one game so far and will need to gear up if they want to keep their hopes alive; with good resources like Emrit, Khan and Tanvir in the bowling department, and a deep batting unit, the hosts can surely overcome the challenges on Saturday.

TRINBAGO KNIGHT RIDERS

They have lost just one game, which was against Tallawahs, and since then have proved to be an unstoppable force, winning 3 matches in a row to take the top spot in the table. Their superior run-rate shows how strong their batting line-up is, with players like Brendon McCullum, Colin Munro, Denesh Ramdin, the Bravo brothers and the versatile all-rounder Sunil Narine. Against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Ramdin posted a brilliant 59 off 35 balls to help chase the 159-run target without a sweat. Munro contributed with 36 off 30 while captain Dwayne Bravo pitched in with useful 20 runs.

Earlier, the spin magician Sunil Narine had taken 2-26 while speedsters Kevon Cooper and Dwayne Bravo dismissed one opponent each. Spinner Shadab Khan also is in good form and had claimed 1 wicket to help restrict the Patriots to 158.
Against Tridents, medium-pacer Ronsford Beaton registered 2-24 while Dwayne Bravo dismissed 2 crucial opponents.

Kevon Cooper, Shadab Khan and Khary Pierre also contributed with 1 wicket each, to restrict the Tridents to 152. Sunil Narine then showcased his batting prowess yet again, scoring a superb 79 off just 45 deliveries to help win the match by 2 wickets. He brings his all-round talent to the team and inspires youngsters to do well in critical situations; with others like Darren Bravo, Ramdin, McCullum and Munro in the top-order, Knight Riders could come out all guns blazing here.

OUR PREDICTION

Although the Warriors have the home advantage, we feel that the Knight Riders with their all-rounder squad and in-form specialists with bat and ball are better placed to win on Saturday.

TUTI Patriots vs Chepauk Super Gillies, Final

Picture

ABOUT THE MATCH

The final of the TNPL 2017 is upon us and it will be the two strongest teams that fight for the crown. The Albert TUTI Patriots have dominated this competition and strolled into the finals without being beaten while the Chepauk Super Gillies have defeated every team apart from the Patriots as well. Can the Gillies stop the defending champions, Patriots, from winning their second successive tournament?

MATCH PREVIEW

ALBERT TUTI PATRIOTS

The Patriots have reached the finals without being defeated or even being seriously challenged for the matter. The biggest star of their side has been Washington Sundar, easily the player of the tournament whatever may happen in the finals.

He has scored 445 runs in the tournament so far at an average of 89.00 and strike rate of 156.14. He also cleared the rope 16 times, more than anyone else in his team. If this were not enough, his bowling has been spectacular as well with a team high total of 14 wickets to his name.

In a team that will boast of international superstars like Dinesh Karthik and Abhinav Mukund, every opposition bowler will be vying for Washington Sundar’s wicket. That is not to say that the Patriots are a one man team. Not by any stretch of imagination.

KM Gandhi has given excellent support to Sundar at the top of the order and has 273 runs in the tournament himself. Dinesh Karthik at 3 and Abhinav Mukund at 4 makes this a formidable lineup which should be able to score a lot of runs even if Washington Sundar fails for a change.

The bowling is also very strong with Sundar and Athisayaraj Davidson being the two standouts. Ganesh Moorthi, Aswin Crist, and Aushik Srinivas have also been impressive although it is clear that having the weight of runs behind them has helped their cause quite a bit.

The Patriots will go into this match as the overwhelmingly strong favorite and it will take something quite remarkable to stop them from winning the title once again.

CHEPAUK SUPER GILLIES

The Gillies have had two opportunities to try and beat the Patriots in this tournament and failed. Their overall record stands at zero wins from four matches against the Patriots. Can the fifth time be any different?

The Chepauk Super Gillies are not a team to be taken lightly even though they have fared poorly against the Patriots in the past. They have the highest wicket taker of the tournament in their side, Sai Kishore, a bowler who stood out even in their loss against Patriots in the first Qualifier and once again in the eliminator against the Lyca Kovai Kings.

His spell of four overs will be crucial to any hopes that the Gillies might have of winning this match. They will also need some of their other senior bowlers like Yo Mahesh and R Sathish to perform better under pressure than they did in the first qualifier.

It is all but certain that the Gillies will open with R Sathish and Sai Kishore in an effort to pick some early wickets and get in the game. The first part of their task will be to stop the Patriots from dominating the powerplay like they have so often in the past and end the game there itself.

The Chepauk Super Gillies also have two openers who have had excellent tournaments. Both Gopinath and Sargunam have over 200 runs in the tournament and will want to improve their record against the Patriots.

A lot will also depend on the tactics that the Chepauk Super Gillies follow because we firmly believe they will have to do something totally out of the ordinary to try and upset the Patriot’s rhythm, otherwise they simply do not stand a chance.

PITCH AND CONDITIONS

It is set to be a cloudy day in Chennai with the threat of rain around. Hopefully, though the rain will stay away long enough for the final of this tournament be played out unhindered. The pitch at the Chidambaram stadium is easily the best batting surface and we could see a lot of runs being scored again.

Sri Lanka vs India 1st ODI

Picture

ABOUT THE MATCHIndia and Sri Lanka have played against each other quite commonly in the past but it would be hard to remember another series in Sri Lanka where the odds were stacked so heavily in India’s favor. Can Sri Lanka lift itself up after the whipping India gave them in the Test series or is it going to be all one-way traffic once again?
MATCH PREVIEWSRI LANKAThe last ODI series that Sri Lanka played was against Zimbabwe, a team that Sri Lanka was expected to beat comprehensively. Sri Lanka lost 3-2. The one before that was against Bangladesh, another series that Sri Lanka would have expected to win. Sri Lanka could only draw that as well.
In this background, it is difficult to take Sri Lanka’s chances against India seriously.
Being underestimated and springing a surprise is also where Sri Lanka’s best chance to win some matches in this series lie. It should not be forgotten that the last time these two teams met in an ODI, Sri Lanka chased down a huge total and beat India at the Champions Trophy.
That victory was made possible by fantastic innings from Dickwella and Mendis with Angelo Mathews also making some vital runs. The Sri Lankan batting for this series will also feature a strong top-5 with Gunathilaka and Upul Tharanga joining the above-mentioned three players.
We strongly believe that this series will be a batting shoot out between the teams and that Sri Lanka will have to score an extra 20-30 runs to compensate for their weak bowling attack.
Lasith Malinga is a waning force and has traditionally struggled against India. Wanindu Hasaranga is a leg spinning all-rounder but his bowling is strictly part time. That leaves Akila Dananjaya and possibly Dushmanth Chameers as the other front line bowlers, not a threatening group by any stretch of the imagination.
Another aspect of Sri Lanka’s game that has deteriorated quite rapidly is their fielding. There was a time when Sri Lanka could claim the mantle of the best Asian fielding side with ease but they have been consistently dropping catches and misfielding.
A lot of things will need to go right for Sri Lanka to be competitive but it will have start with some runs. We hope to see an aggressive Dickweels take the attack to the Indians followed by an in-form Kusal Mendis. If these two don’t quite step up then we are afraid this series could become one-sided very quickly.
INDIAThere is no doubt India’s intentions in this series or even their forthcoming plans for the ODI side in general. They want to start preparing for the 2019 World Cup by blooding in new players in the middle order and making fitness a priority.
Yuvraj Singh is no longer a part of the side and has been replaced by KL Rahul, someone who had an excellent IPL last year. Rohit Sharma is also back in the team and will replace Ajinkya Rahane who scored a lot of runs in the West Indies.
Perhaps the biggest fight for a place in the team will be between Kedar Jadhav and Manish Pandey. As the incumbent, Jadhav will probably get the nod but Pandey has been scoring tons of runs in the A matches and is an electric fielder, something that Virat Kohli values very much.
Speaking of Virat Kohli, he is the undisputed king of ODI cricket and is coming off a series against West Indies where he scored runs by the bucket load. After a middling Test series by his standard, this could be just the stage he needs to show what he is really capable of.
We also expect to see Yuzvendra Chahal in the side. He is an attacking leg-spinner that plays in the same IPL side as Virat Kohli and that relationship may just get him the nod ahead of Axar Patel.
With Kuldeep Yadav also sure to be in the playing 11, India will have the services of two attacking, wicket-taking options in the middle overs, something that seemed to be lacking in the Champions Trophy.
India has Hardik Pandya batting at 7 as well as doing the role of the fifth bowler in the side to lend balance and two very reliable short format bowlers in Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah.
This is a team that is rebuilding from the defeat in the finals of the Champions Trophy but is by no means a weak or inexperienced side. In fact, we are struggling to find any particular area where Sri Lanka may hold any significant advantage over India in any aspect of the game.
PITCH AND CONDITIONSThe pitch at Dambulla is generally considered flat but a little slow in nature. There will be nothing in it for the fast bowlers but the spinners may find some slow turn. It will be interesting to see what kind of kind of pace they bowl to get the most of this pitch. A score of 300 should be considered slightly above par and the team chasing may actually find it easier to pace their inning.
OUR PREDICTIONWe think that Sri Lanka will offer much more of a challenge in this series than they did in the tests and should win a couple of games at least. For the time being though, a bet on India is the only smart way to go.
India to win.
